A Carnival cruise has something for grandparents, grandkids and everyone in between – plus ample opportunities for the whole family to enjoy a wide variety of activities – either as a whole family or in age-appropriate environments.
The results of Carnival’s latest travel research make one thing very clear: Australians everywhere can’t wait to go on holiday again. In fact, a whopping 94 per cent of parents surveyed said everyone in their family, from oldest to youngest, needed a break.
If your family feels the same, a Carnival cruise could be just what your family’s in need of. That’s because our ships are some of the most activity-packed vessels afloat, with dozens of entertainment options to delight the young, the fully grown and the forever young at heart, to the tune of 45+ options each and every day.
Here are some of the possibilities for each member of the family.
Clubs and adventure for the kids
Your Carnival cruise ship doesn’t just have a kids’ club: it has three and they are all included in the fare. For those aged two–11 there’s Camp Ocean, run by trained counsellors who’ll make sure your children keep busy, stay active and – most importantly – have fun. We know kids in their early teens have their own rituals and language, which is why we created Circle “C” just for 12–14 year olds. Meanwhile, those aged 15 to 17 can bond over video games, karaoke and more at Club O2. The Night Owls program also runs for a small nominal fee until as late as 1am, so an overdue date night can be enjoyed, and the kids have the novelty of staying up late.
Time off for Mum and Dad
With the kids taken care of, it’s time for Mum and Dad to recharge. First stop: the oh so peaceful adults-only Serenity Retreat, where calm reigns and the only obligation is to enjoy yourself. Grab your favourite drinks from the bar, get settled on your preferred loungers and savour the feeling of relaxation with live chilled music, a pool and Jacuzzis. Later, you might decide to indulge in a treatment at the spa – perhaps a masterly-applied and indulgent facial, or a massage specially tailored to you. Whatever you choose, you can feel safe in the knowledge that the kids are being looked after.
Treats for the grandparents
Of course, senior members of your family can do whatever they like during their trip – after all, cruises are about choice. But we reckon certain Carnival attractions will hold extra appeal for your wiser relatives. At the Piano Bar, our skilled pianists perform cherished hits and take audience requests; singing along is actively encouraged. Elsewhere, there are games of luck and skill to suit every preference, from bingo to a casino. When it’s time to relax, there’s always a cosy corner in one of the 16 bars and lounges.
Spectacular shows to watch together
With so much live entertainment on offer aboard a Carnival cruise, you’ll easily find a show to please the entire group. Feel like a good chuckle? The Punchliner Comedy Club is the place to be for laugh-out-loud (and family-friendly) gags. If a big production is more your style, check out the theatre program, Playlist Productions, which includes extravagant Broadway-style stage shows, with 80s Pop to the Max and Epic Rock being two major crowd-pleasers. You can even engage in some friendly family competition during one of our high-energy Lip Sync Battles.
A new family meal every day
What better way to make memories as a family than by sharing a delicious meal (cooked by somebody else, of course)? You’ll discover fresh flavours and new twists on old favourites throughout your cruise – in fact, you could try a different cuisine every day for a week and still have options left. Pizza, Mexican, Indian… It’s all here, and much of it is included in your fare. Why not start your day with a breakfast burrito packed with Mexican scrambled eggs, mini crispy hash browns, lettuce cheese and guacamole. Then follow at lunch with a mouth-watering Butter Chicken at Masala Tiger or a sumptuous burger at Guy’s Burger Joint. Save yourself for the pinnacle a la carte dining room with a daily rotating international menu and round out your meal with the most popular Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. It’s all in a day’s work!
